Display
The four character DISPLAY shows the input that is selected by the fader.
The display can also be made to show the current status of the fader’s input
with regard to its presence in the caller feed or mix-minus outputs.
Fader
The fader is the sliding mechanism that determines how strong is the
presence of the input in some of the various console outputs (in other outputs
the fader will have no effect; see the paragraphs below).
If the fader is all the way down (that is, pulled toward the console operator),
the signal will not be present in any of the four main buses (PGM, AUD,
MONO1, and MONO2, to which it is assigned. As the fader is moved up (that
is, pushed away from the console operator) the signal will appear more
strongly in all of the main buses to which it is assigned.
The fader position will not affect the strength of the signal in the cue output.
Whether or not the fader position affects the strength of the signal in the
caller feed or mix-minus buses to which it is assigned depends on the mix-
minus status for that input.
ON and OFF Buttons
The ON AND OFF BUTTONS determine if the fader is ON or OFF. The
lighted buttons normally show the status of the fader.
If a fader is OFF, or if its selected input is “OFF”, that fader’s signal will
not be present in any main bus output, regardless of the status of the BUS
ASSIGN BUTTONS or the position of the FADER. If the fader is OFF its
signal will still be present in the cue output if it has been assigned to cue. But
if the fader’s selected input is “OFF” its signal can not be present in the cue
output. Presence of the signal in the caller feed or mix-minus buses depends
on the mix-minus status for that input.
PHONE SECTION
The PHONE SECTION is comprised of a SELECT BUTTON, four BUS
ASSIGN BUTTONS (PGM, AUD, MONO1, and MONO2), a CUE BUT-
TON, a four character DISPLAY, two FADERS, and ON AND OFF BUT-
TONS. [NOTE — This section also refers to the following controls and
displays located in the CONTROL SECTION: CHANNEL DISPLAY,
SOURCE DISPLAY, SELECT KNOB, and ENTER BUTTON.]
The Phone Section Is Different Than a Normal
Fader
There are some important differences between a standard fader and the
phone section. The phone section controls the audio for two callers. Not only
do we have to control where the audio for each caller is going, and at what
