Network Interfaces for HA
In High Availability (HA) mode, the device features two blades which are redundant to each
other. Both blades share the same configuration, while only one of them is active. (The
default state is the Active module in Slot 1 and the Redundant module in Slot 3).
Each blade in the Mediant 3000 system boots as standalone. The blade is also assigned
its own private address (which may have been acquired via BootP/DHCP or configured
manually) which is used for maintenance only (prior to entering HA mode).
The active blade uses the address configured by the Multiple Interface table. The
redundant blade disconnects from the network once the device enters HA mode.
When the system loads from BootP/TFTP (first configuration setup), HA is disabled. After
resetting the Active blade from the Web interface/EMS, it loads from flash and HA
becomes activated.
35.1 Mediant 3000 Internal Link
The device's two blades keep an active communication channel between them. Through
this channel, the redundant blade is constantly updated by the active blade and monitors
the state of the active blade, ready to take over in the case of a failure. This internal link is
used solely for internal communication and is un-reachable from an external network.
The device uses pre-configured IP addresses based on the chassis slot in which each
resides:

Note:
The internal link addresses must not be configured as one of the device's IP
addresses. Communication with any external peer carrying this address is
also forbidden.
35.2 Example of Multiple Interface Configuration
The following example shows a configuration of multiple network interfaces, including IPv6
and VLANs.
