Connectors and Cables

SmartLine 16 User’s Guide

DC or MIC Connectors

Figure A-2 shows the RI/RO cables that appear in the DC setup
shown in Figure 3-1. These cables have pin-to-pin connector wiring
using DC connectors. The cable must have two twisted pairs.

Figure A-2. DC Main Ring Cables.

A.2   Lobe Port Cables

The cables used for the physical connections between the MAU lobe ports
and a network device (workstation, etc.) have pin-to-pin (straight through)
wiring like the Ring In/Ring Out cables (see Section A.1).

A.3   Manager PC Cables

Figure 3-5 (see Chapter Three) shows the various cables used to
connect a Manager PC, either directly or via a modem.

PC-to-SL16 Direct DTE-to-DTE

Because the COM port of a PC can have either a 9- or 25-pin
connector, Figure A-3 shows two types of cables used to connect a
PC to an SL16 directly. Note that the signals cross in this cable
arrangement. You can use a part number 351-0565-01 cable and a
part number 213-0565-01 crossover adapter for the DB-9-to-RJ45
cable. Both are included with the SL16.
