GPIB Interface Test (Optional)
You will need a controller/computer with GPIB capabilities for this test.

Connect the Agilent 8163A Lightwave Multimeter or the Agilent 8164A
Lightwave Measurement System to the controller via the GPIB.

Switch on the instrument and wait until it has booted.

Send the
*IDN?
query to the instrument from the controller.

Check that the lowest softkey is called [Local]. This indicates that the
instrument received the query.

The reply from the instrument should be a string of the form,
HEWLETT-PACKARD, <Model Number>, <Serial Number>,
<Firmware Revision Number>

Press [Local] to return the instrument to local control.
