” is briefly displayed and heat transfer fluid must

be added as described in Installation & Setup.
When not in use, the Model 3900 may either be left on continuously for

maximum starting throughput speed, or it may be shut off. No refriger-

ation cool-down time is required. When turned on, samples may be

loaded and tested as soon as “

Osmometer Ready

” is dis played (the

first few samples will exhibit a slightly-longer test time until the reserve

heat transfer fluid cooler reaches its operating temperature).
If high range has been selected, the operator may be presented with a

message “

Stand By for High Range Pre-Cool

” and prevented from

performing any tests until the reserve heat transfer fluid reaches a set

operating temperature.
Also, if high range is selected, the operator may be presented with the

displayed message “

Stand By, Pre-Cool

” after pressing Start. The first

test will be delayed until the sample chamber has reached a preset tem-

perature. This will only occur for the first test sample.

Testing batch-numbered or bar code-scanned

samples

If either batch numbering or bar code scanning has been enabled via the

setup menu, it is highly recommended that you minimize sample expo-

sure by pressing START before loading samples.
If either batch numbering or bar code scanning has been enabled, when

the START button is pressed the instrument operator will be prompted

for a batch identification number of up to 4 digits for the batch.
At the “

Batch Number:

” prompt, enter the batch identification

number one digit at a time from the left via the numeric keypad, and

press ENTER to store the setting. “
