One of the coolest features of Acrobat.com is Adobe ConnectNow, which
lets you set up real-time meetings on your desktop using a personal Web
conference meeting room. Your personal meeting room has a perma-
nent URL that is easy to remember, so you’ll always know where to meet
online.
In an online meeting, you communicate with one or two colleagues
using live chat, share online whiteboards, and use different audio/video
sharing (read your options in the sidebar “Talk Out Loud”). ConnectNow
also lets you share your desktop and take remote control access of a par-
ticipant’s desktop.
Follow these steps to start a meeting:
1. Open Adobe ConnectNow by doing the following:
•
Typing your unique meeting room URL into a browser window.
•
Or, in Acrobat, choose Share My Screen from the Collaborate task
button’s menu. If you are in a real-time collaboration session,
choose Share My Screen from the Collaborate Live navigation
pane’s Options menu.
Tip
ConnectNow launches in its own application window—once it is
running, you can close the original browser window.
2. When ConnectNow opens, select Invite Others to send e-mail mes-
sages and invite participants. If you are collaborating in real time, your
collaborators are shown an invitation message and simply have to
click View Screen to join the meeting.
3. Attendees join the meeting by logging in to your meeting space from
their computers. When a viewer request pop-up appears in the win-
dow, click Accept to include the participant in the session.
The ConnectNow meeting room is made up of several components
(Figure 82a).
Note
If you are the host for the meeting and you are sharing your screen, you
can access all the features; however, your participants can’t reset the
pods layout, for example, or invite another guest.

System Requirements
Your computer has to meet minimal requirements to use Acrobat.com.
Depending on your operating system, you need the following:
•
Microsoft Windows Vista and XP requires the Internet Explorer 7, Internet
Explorer 6.
x
, or Firefox 2.
x
browser, and Flash Player version 9.0.47 or later.
•
Mac OS X v10.5 requires the Safari 3.

or Firefox 2.
x
browser, and Flash
Player version 9.0.47 or later (9.0.115 on Mac OS X v10.5).
•
Mac OS X v10.4 requires the Safari 3.
x
, Safari 2.
x
, or Firefox 2.
x
browser, and
Flash Player version 9.0.47 or later.
What to Tell
Your Guests
Your guests may not be
as computer-savvy or
ConnectNow-literate as you
are. Give them some infor-
mation about the service to
set their minds at ease:
•
A guest doesn’t need an
account at Acrobat.com
but can simply remain a
guest.
•
Guests don’t have to
download any software.
The ConnectNow appli-
cation runs via Flash
Player, which they will
need to have installed in
their browser. The only
software that might be
required is the Connect-
Now plug-in if they want
to participate in screen
sharing.
•
Guests don’t have to
make any changes to
their firewalls to par-
ticipate, as ConnectNow
communicates through
standard HTTP and
Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
ports.
