2.4.4 External scanner (ExtScan2KeyCE program)
External laser scanners from various manufacturers can be connected to the Windows CE devices.
Non-customised applications use a scan data insert function in the keyboard buffer to insert the scan data
next to the cursor position. This is done with the ExtScan2KeyCE license application that is installed if
necessary on the MDT device.
An installation pack is available from ACD for subsequent installations.
At the MDT devices, the external laser scanner is connected to the RS232 interface of the vehicle mounting.
Therefore device must be inserted into the vehicle mounting.
Note:
An external USB interface is available on the MDT devices. The vehicle holder converts RS232 to USB. The
virtual COM5 interface is generated with a USB driver (and if applicable COM6) that is then used in
ExtScan2KeyCE.

It is possible to connect two external scanners to the

Basic scanner initialisation
Each external scanner with scan data to be inserted into the keyboard via ExtScan2KeyCE must be
configured with the following baud rate parameters:
Speed
9600 bit/second
Data bits
8
Stop bit
1
Parity
None
Depending on the settings in the configuration file, the prefix character STX ( = 02h ) and suffix character
ETX ( = 03h ) must be set in the scanner. Only scan data embedded between both these characters will be
inserted into the keyboard by ExtScan2KeyCE.
