2.7 Communication applications
The different ways to transmit data between the Windows CE device and the host (usually a PC) are outlined
in this chapter.
2.7.1 FTP (Windows CE device as a server)
An FTP server service is available on Windows CE devices. It is easy to upload/download files from/to the
device using the username/password functions and known IP address.
As the server has a relatively simple architecture, long folder/file names may be cut off on the client screen,
especially file names with space characters. For example on some graphic FTP clients, the directory
"Microsoft Remote Display Control" is shortened to simply "Control". However the full name, i.e.
'cd "Microsoft Remote Display Control"' must be entered in order to open this directory.
2.7.1.1 Setting the password
The user has the default password acd when the device is delivered. Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel /
Password to reset the password. Then save the registry.
2.7.1.2 Setting the root directory and other parameters
When the device is registered, the root directory is defined under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\FTPD,
key name DefaultDir (default: \ [root]).
In this window, you can also define whether users who are logged on anonymously should also be assigned
with write privileges. To do this, set the key AllowAnonymousUpload to 1 (default: 0).
Anonymous logins are permitted when AllowAnonymous is set to 1 (default: 0).
The server service is disabled on the next reboot when the IsEnabled option is set to 0 (default: 1).
