3 "How-To": problems and solutions
This chapter is intended to provide the administrator with a simple set of instructions to help in their day-to-
day work.
3.1 Remote NDIS driver on the PC
The RNDIS protocol can be used to connect the Windows CE device to the PC. It supports a fully virtual
network interface over a USB connection.
3.1.1 Differences between Windows XP and Windows 7
A RNDIS driver pack (available from ACD) must be installed on the PC under Windows XP.
The installation is described in the chapter below (3.1.2).
Another option is described in Chapter 3.1.3.
The driver pack is preinstalled under Windows 7 (keyword Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter).
If necessary, an installation pack can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center and installed.
It has unfortunately been determined that only a "local" RNDIS connection can be established between the
PC and MDT device with pre-defined IP addresses under Windows 7.
It is no longer possible to "integrate" the MDT device into the entire LAN with the IP address assigned by
DHCP. An error occurs when trying to establish the required network bridge between the normal and RNDIS
LAN adapter.
The next two chapters focus on this feature in Windows XP.
