TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM
SOLUTION
The Motor Will Not Start
The extension cord is not securely
connected to the unit or power source
Make sure each plug is securely connected
The GFCI in the outlet has tripped (if
used)
Reset the GFCI
The breaker switch has tripped
Reset the breaker switch in the home
electrical panel
The locking switch was not pressed
Press and hold the locking switch before
squeezing the trigger switch
The unit is damaged
Refer to Service information
The Motor Lacks Power Or Stalls
The extension cord wire size is
inadequate
Use an extension cord with the necessary
wire size. Refer to the wire size Table 1 in
the “SAFETY RULE” section.
POLE CHAINSAW
The Saw Chain Comes Off The Guide Bar
The saw chain tension is too loose
Tighten the saw chain tension
The guide bar and saw chain are
assembled incorrectly
Refer to “The Guide Bar and Saw Chain” in
“ASSEMBLY”
The Guide Bar And Saw Chain Are Running Hot, Smoking Or
Stuck
The saw chain tension is too tight
Loosen the saw chain tension
The saw chain and guide bar lack
sufficient oil
Fill the chain oil tank and press the chain
oil bulb, as needed
The guide bar groove and oil passages
are dirty
Clean the guide bar and oil passages
The Saw Chain Does Not Rotate
The saw chain tension is too tight
Adjust the saw chain tension
The guide bar and saw chain are
assembled incorrectly
Refer to Installing the Guide Bar and Saw
Chain
The guide bar and saw chain are
damaged
Inspect the guide bar and saw chain for
damage. Replace them if necessary
The drive assembly is damaged
Refer to Service information
The Saw Chain Rotates, But Does Not Cut
The saw chain is dull
Sharpen or replace the saw chain
The saw chain is on backwards
Check and correct the saw chain direction
