Global Address
A global addr ess uniquely ident ifies a device on t he I nt er net . I t is sim ilar t o a “ public I P addr ess” in
I Pv4. A global unicast addr ess st ar t s w it h a 2 or 3.
Unspecified Address
An unspecified addr ess ( 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0 or : : ) is used as t he sour ce address w hen a device does
not have it s ow n addr ess. I t is sim ilar t o “ 0.0.0.0” in I Pv4.
Loopback Address
A loopback addr ess ( 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 1 or : : 1) allow s a host t o send packet s t o it self. I t is sim ilar t o
“ 127.0.0.1” in I Pv4.
Multicast Address
I n I Pv6, m ult icast addr esses pr ovide t he sam e funct ionalit y as I Pv4 br oadcast addresses.
Br oadcast ing is not support ed in I Pv6. A m ult icast addr ess allow s a host t o send packet s t o all host s
in a m ult icast gr oup.
Mult icast scope allow s you t o det er m ine t he size of t he m ult icast gr oup. A m ult icast addr ess has a
pr edefined pr efix of ff00: : / 8. The follow ing t able descr ibes som e of t he pr edefined m ult icast
