17.1 Link Aggregation Overview
This chapt er show s you how t o logically aggr egat e physical links t o for m one logical, higher-
bandw idt h link.
Link aggr egat ion ( t r unking) is t he gr ouping of physical por t s int o one logical higher- capacit y link.
You m ay want t o t r unk por t s if for exam ple, it is cheaper t o use m ult iple low er- speed links t han t o
under- ut ilize a high- speed, but m or e cost ly, single- por t link. How ever, t he m or e por t s you
aggr egat e t hen t he few er available por t s you have. A t r unk gr oup is one logical link cont aining
m ult iple por t s.
The beginning por t of each t r unk gr oup m ust be physically connect ed t o for m a t r unk gr oup.
