SECTION 4A - SYSTEM PROGRAMMING
Serial port baud rate
■ Serial communications port: initial setting is "5" for 9600 baud ■
The Serial port (connector Jl) can be connected to a VDT or a computer
with a serial communications port. One of six common baud rates (300,
600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600) may be selected.
Serial port parity
■ Serial communications port: initial setting is "0" for none ■
Select a setting to match the requirements of the communications port
on your VDT or computer. Allowed settings are: none, odd, or even
parity.
Nulls to send after a <CR>
■ Serial communications port: initial setting is 0 ■
This allows programming the Model 16 to send "NULL" characters (ASCII
00) following transmission of a carriage return character <CR>. The
purpose for this feature is that some VDTs are slow to retrace and
begin a new line following the <CR>. Sending NULLs is a standard
method to cause a delay.
Serial port handshake
■ Serial communications port hardware handshake: initial setting is "0" ■
Select a setting to match the requirements of the communications port
on your VDT or computer. Allowed settings are: none, Clear To
Send/Request To Send (CTS/RTS), Data Carrier Detect/Data Terminal
Ready (DCD/DTR). These are standard interface signals as defined by
the EIA RS232C specification. Most installations should be programmed
to "0" none.
Local timeouts
■ Automatic disconnect mode: initial setting is "Enabled" ■
If enabled, the terminal will disconnect the Local line or Serial port
if no key has been pressed in the last 30 seconds.
Paging options (O)
As each parameter is programmed the current setting is displayed.
Press CR to keep the current setting, or input a new one.
Batch period (x 10 sec)
■ Paging transmission interval: initial setting is "0" ■
As each page is received, it is placed into a Batch. This setting
determines the maximum time that the Batch will accumulate pages
before it is available for transmission. A setting of "0" means that
each page will be sent as it is received. Divide the desired Batch
period in seconds by 10 to find the value to input. Example: for 60-
second Batch period, enter 6.
Transaction msgs
■ Paging progress phrases: initial setting is "Enabled" ■
When Enabled, the Optional Message field (described in "Section 5 -
Protocol"), is used to provide readable messages describing the paging
progress. When Disabled these messages are suppressed.
