SERVICE AND PROTOCOL ID
When the Entry Device starts communication with the Paging Terminal, it
(Mjst supply a 3-character ID that tells the Terminal which kindolL pager ID
it willJbe sending. The Model 16 supports two Service and Protocol IDsf
ID
PAGER ID TYPE COMMENTS
"PG1"
User number
This ID requires the user database option,
and it is the ID used by most Entry Stations.
If your ID is not selectable, it
automatically chooses this.
"PG8"
Full Capcode
If the ID can be changed in your Entry
Station, set it to this to page by Full
Capcode.
MESSAGE ENTRY
Either numeric or alphanumeric messages can be composed on Entry Stations
for transfer to the Model 16. The message should be of the same type of
data appropriate to the kind of pager that will receive it, i.e. messages
for numeric pagers should be limited to the numeric character set while
alphanumeric characters may receive messages composed from the alphanumeric
character set. In addition, the message length should be kept within the
bounds set for the Format type that is being paged. The Model 16 will
truncate messages received that are longer than the specified limit.
OPERATION
The sequence of events for Entry Station paging through the Model 16:

The operator wishing to place a page enters the name of the
person to page into the Entry Station.

The Entry Station finds the name in its directory and prepares to
create a page using the pager ID stored with the name.

The operator enters the message to be sent.

The operator instructs the Entry Station to send
the page.

The entry station connects to the Model 16 by issuing a <CR>.

The entry station sends its Service and Protocol ID and Security
code and waits for the Model 16 to acknowledge. From here on,
the Entry Station displays on the screen any progress messages
that the Model 16 returns to it.

The entry station sends the pager ID and message for each page
and waits for the Model 16 to acknowledge.

When all the prepared pages have been sent the Entry Station
requests the Terminal to disconnect.
