7. Use the knurled knob for vertical condenser ad-
justment to move the condenser to the upper
limit stop.
8. Use the control lever of the aperture di-
aphragm to set the aperture diaphragm to the
middle position.
9. Look through one eyepiece and use the focus-
ing drive to bring the specimen into focus.
10. If necessary, readjust the image sharpness for the other eye by turning the adjustable eye-
piece.

The image of the high-contrast specimen is sharp for both eyes.
11. Close the luminous-field diaphragm until its
edges become visible in the field of view.
