Description of the device
The CIRRUS photo device consists of a fundus camera main unit (9, Fig. 2),
an OCT engine (6, Fig. 2), and the power module (7, Fig. 2), all being
installed onto an instrument table.
It is operated via computer mouse (2, Fig. 3), keyboard (3, Fig. 3), and
joystick as part of the main unit. The monitor is mounted on top of the
instrument table.
The main unit comprises the electrical and optical components to illuminate
and image the ocular structures.
A CCD camera is used for the live observation of the fundus using infrared
LEDs for illumination of the fundus. A Xenon flash lamp is used to capture
fundus images.
The OCT engine provides all means to control, obtain and reconstruct OCT
scan data. A super luminescence diode is used as light source.
To obtain three dimensional OCT data sets the light beam has to be scanned
across the ocular structure of interest. The beam is therefore guided by a
pair of perpendicular galvanometer mirrors. This XY-scan module is part of
the main unit.
The power module provides operating voltage for the main unit and the OCT
engine (3, Fig. 8). An appliance connection allows the operation of the
monitor (5, Fig. 8) via a power isolation transformer.
The computer is part of the main unit and controls both fundus camera and
OCT engine.
