– Cut two short pieces of small heat-shrink tubing, each about 3/4-inch long. Place the
tubing at each end of the audio cable. Process.
– Prepare a 17-inch long audio cable. Attach connector pins to each of the two wires (the
white wire and the shield) on one end of the audio cable. Insert the connector pins into the
4-conductor Molex socket housing as follows: white to position #2 and shield to position
#4.
– Cut two short pieces of small heat-shrink tubing, each about 3/4-inch long. Place the
tubing at each end of the audio cable. Process.
– Insert the Molex socket into the
CONN102
connector on the preamp PWB. Note that pin
1 of the Molex socket faces the rear of the chassis.
– Connect the cable from the #1/3 position on CONN102 to SW101. The white wire goes to
position #1 (right). Solder. Clip off the shield; it is not used on this end.
– Prepare a 2-inch long #22 white wire. Connect one end of the wire to the arm (right)
position on SW101. Solder. Leave the other end free for now.
– Connect the cable from the #2/4 position on Conn2 to SW101. The white wire goes to
position #1 (left). Solder. The shield goes to position #4. Solder (2 wires).
– Prepare a 2-inch long #22 white wire. Connect one end of the wire to the arm (right)
position on SW101. Solder. Leave the other end free for now.
– Check the orientation of SW101 so the front panel knob lines up with the Phonograph
legend when the switch is in position #1. Secure the switch and the knob.
In the following steps, the front panel dual potentiometers will be connected. In all cases, the
section closest to the front panel is used by the right channel, denoted by “a”. The rear section of
each potentiometer is used by the left channel, denoted by “b”.
•
Find the white wire from SW101 arm (right).
•
Find R146 (6.8 k
Ω
, 0.5 W), which was set aside previously. Trim the leads on each side of
the resistor to about 1/4-inch.
•
Solder one end of the resistor to the white wire.
•
Prepare a 2-inch white wire. Solder one end of the wire to the free end of resistor R146.
