The
Uni-Drive
side belt system is designed to keep the case square during sealing which results in a stronger seal
and a better finished appearance.
It works by linking both side belt drives to a single motor and gear reducer. In the
Uni-Drive
system both belts
are driven by single continuous loop of machine chain.
PROBLEMS CORRECTIVE
ACTION
Case Is Not Sealing Squarely
•
Check that case is square before it engages in the machine conveyor
belts.
•
Check that side belts are correctly adjusted to case width:
1. Adjust the belts until they lightly contact case sides, but so that the
case can still slide through the belts if firmly pushed.
2. Remove case and tighten belts one half turn.
•
Check that belts are correctly tensioned and that neither belt is slipping
on the drive pulley.
•
In the case of round cans or bottle type products check that belts are set
to grip lightly but firmly on case sides. Excessive side pressure can
cause round objects to roll ‘over center’ and distort the off-square.
Depressed - Crushed Band on
Lower Case
•
Check for excessive side belt pressure.
Rubber ‘Dust’ Being Shed by
Belt
•
Check that conveyor width adjustment is set so that boxes are gripped
securely and propelled into the compression section of the machine with
enough momentum to clear the belts and move the preceding box onto
the out-feed conveyor.
•
Sealed cases must be conveyed away from the machine and not allowed
to back up and add resistance to case movement inside the machine.
•
Check that belt tensioning and tracking adjustments are correct. Note:
too much tension can cause premature belt wear and possible belt
breaking. (See section on
Uni-Drive
)
Rattling Noise From Drive Train
•
Although pre-stretched chain is used in the machines, the chain over
time may loosen and rattle on the drive cover. Tightening the idler
sprocket can rectify this (see maintenance section on
Uni-drive
).
