OLDING
– BEL 270
All BEL Machines that automatically fold the top flaps of cases use the unique
Snap Folder
system.
The function of the
Snap Folders
is to integrate the folding of the minor flaps and major flaps within the shortest
possible time and travel distance. In each
Snap Folder
module the rear minor flap and major flap folders are
activated through a single mechanical, progressively linked drive system powered by a pneumatic cylinder.
PROBLEM CORRECTIVE
ACTION
Rear Minor Flap is not Folded-
in
•
Make sure that the
Snap Folder
modules have been correctly positioned
for box width and depth.
•
Check that air to machine is turned on.
•
Check that
Snap Folder
modules are operating.
•
Be sure that box is tripping the
Snap Folder
actuating switch at the
machine in-feed.
•
Check to ensure air pressure is maintained at correct machine setting, and
that adequate air volume is being delivered consistently. Lack of air
pressure and/or volume can result in poor flap closing performance.
•
Check operating speed of
Snap Folder
s. If speed is set too low the rear
minor flap folders will not be activated quickly enough to fold the rear
minor flap or rear flap may spring open as box emerges from under the
minor folders. Consult
Snap Folder
maintenance section for procedure
on adjusting flow control speed regulators.
•
Check that the scoring of case flaps is adequate and that they will bend
easily and cleanly.
•
Be sure that overfill is not excessive.
•
Flaps shorter than three inches may have to be run on a modified machine
Rear Minor Appears To Fold
and Then Releases and May Be
Turned Backwards or it hits the
top ski
•
Check that the top ski that controls the minor flaps is set in correct
position for RSC cases:
•
very narrow boxes – ski should be set forward to the front of the
adjustment range to catch the smaller flap before it can pop up
again after folding
•
mid width boxes - set to the center of the adjustment range
•
very wide boxes - set back to the rear of the adjustment range to
provide room for the larger flap to fold down without hitting the
ski
Note: this adjustment is used for extremes of case size range, and should
normally be set in the middle position.
