Gatekeeper and Aliases tab
•
For important information about gatekeepers
and aliases, please refer to Chapter 1.
Local aliases (H.323 IDs and E.164 addresses) can be used instead of an IP address
when someone wants to call you. In order for these aliases to work, both the endpoints
must be registered with a gatekeeper and the call must be made through this gatekeeper.
When the endpoint chooses the “Don’t have Gatekeeper” option, it has to use the
domain name or IP address of the called endpoint.
The only characters that
are allowed in an E.164
address are: *, #, and
digits 0-9.
These addresses are
displayed for user
information only. The
Domain name is the
name of the local
machine by which it is
recognized by the LAN.
The IP address is a
unique 32-bit Internet
address that is used to
communicate with that
host.
An H.323 ID provides an alternate method of defining your ow
address, so someone calling you does not have to know your IP
address. This could be a name, an email-like address, etc.
For a full
explanation of
“Gatekeeper,”
please see
Chapter 1.
