G4 Multi Channel Weighing Instrument

External I/O 

General 

When using the Scale Batching Program Option it is possible to expand the amount of 
digital I/O by connecting one WAGO_I/O_SYSTEM 750 with up to 128 inputs and 128 
outputs. Note that only digital I/O modules may be used with the Scale Batching 
Program Option.  

The I/O system is connected to the G4 CPU module Ethernet port. The external I/O 
system is intended for the Scale Batching. External I/O may also be used in special 
programs. See the separate description of the special program. The G4 Instrument and 
the WAGO I/O system communicate over Ethernet using the Modbus TCP protocol. 
The G4 CPU module can handle both 10 and 100 Mbit/s networks. It is possible to use 
switches, hubs etc in the network. Note that the communication performance will be 
affected by the network speed, network load, scale update rate etc. 

There are no settings for the number of I/O installed in the I/O system. The user must 
make sure that only installed I/O’s are used. No error messages will be given for not 
installed I/O’s.  

I/O’s are automatically numbered from 101 and up. The I/O closest to the Fieldbus 
coupler will have the lowest numbers. Inserting or removing I/O terminals may 
rearrange the numbering. 

 

Setup 

•

  Configuration of the G4 Instrument network connection (IP-address, 

netmask,….) is done from menu ‘Network Config’.  

•

  Set the IP address and sub net mask of the connected WAGO I/O SYSTEM in 

the WAGO Fieldbus coupler module. Make sure the address is compatible with 
the network. 

•

  Enter the selected IP address of the connected WAGO I/O SYSTEM in 

parameter ‘IP Address’. This parameter is found in menu 
‘Param. Set-up/Communication/Ethernet/External I/O’. 

•

  Enable the external I/O by setting parameter ‘External I/O Mode’ to ‘WAGO’ in 

menu ‘Param. Set-up/Communication/Ethernet/External I/O’. 

•

  Normally (factory default) is the WAGO fieldbus coupler watchdog configured 

by the G4 Instrument. By setting parameter ‘Conf. Wago Watchd’ to ‘No’ in 
menu ‘Param. Set-up/Communication/Ethernet/External I/O’ the watchdog will 
not be configured by the G4 Instrument. 

 

Note that incorrect setting of the network parameters may cause disturbances in the 
network. 

Refer to Wago manuals and setup program before installation/configuration of the 
external I/O system.
