8.2.2.4. E220: Unexpected activation of film cassette sensor /
E221: Timeout on film cassette motor /
E222: End runs of cassette motor not found
The film cassette is moved by the stepper motor M4 and its position while
the position is checked using the optical sensors B4 and B5, placed at
the end of travel. During the power on sequence or at the end of an
examination, the control system checks that those two sensors are
activated in the correct way; this function is used also to proper
positioning the cassette on the center of its travel.
•
E220
message can be displayed or during the power on or during an
examination; its meaning is that:
-
both sensors are active at the same time. In this case, a possible
cause can be a fault on the cable from sensors to X48 of board
A8, or cable X33 from A8 to X33 of the CPU board (A5)
-
one sensor is activated while it must be deactivated. The cause
can be a fault on the sensor or a fault on the control system.
Entering the setup and alignment procedure for cassette motor, it is
possible to check the status of sensors and motor.

-
"a"
is the status bit of the film cassette holder position, that is 1
if its is in PAN or = if not in PAN (open)
-
"b"
is the status of cassette presence, 1 is Cassette inserted, 0
otherwise
-
"c"
and
"d"
are the statuses of end run sensors.
•
E221
message is displayed when:
-
only one of the B4/B5 sensors is always found active
-
none sensor is activated in a pre determined time.
In both cases, the cause can be or the sensor itself or the motor not
running.
•
E222
is displayed when the sensor B3 and B4 are never found active,
and main cause is the film cassette not moving, so a fault of the
stepper motor chain.
In this case, check the cable from motor M4 to connector X46 of
board A8 and cable X5 to X29-X32 from A8 to CPU board (A5). If one
of those cable are broken, replace it; in case of shorted wires, check
that also the stepper motor driver has not been damaged. I this later
case, also the CPU board must be replaced.
