Preface
The Versacount II+ Taped Components Counter is built with the following features:
• Accepts 7 inch and 13 inch reel diameters and carrier tape widths from 8 mm to 104 mm
• SMD reel counting kit sold standard, with optional empty pocket detector
• An optional axial/radial counting kit is available for counting leaded reels
• An optional riser base is available to accommodate 22” reels
• Counts bidirectionally from 2 mm to 104 mm carrier tape pitch
• Counts up to 999,999 parts before rolling over to a count of 0.
• Counts a preprogrammed number of parts and displays the actual number of parts after empty
pockets are subtracted when using the empty pocket detector
• Stops on programmed number of consecutive empty pockets when using empty pocket detector
• All metal construction and an attachment point provide ESD protection for sensitive components
• Makes an ideal tape inspection platform in addition to its counting function
This User’s Guide describes how to setup and operate the Versacount II+ Taped Components
Counter and should be read and thoroughly understood before operating the counter.
Theory of Operation
The intended use of the Versacount II+ Taped Components Counter is to count taped reels of
individually sealed Surface Mounted Devices (SMD) or Radial/Axial components.
The operator begins by mounting a reel of components on one side of the machine. The tape is
then routed through the machine’s track, past the counter and Empty Pocket Detector (optional).
Once the tape has been fed through the counter it is routed onto an empty take-up reel.
The operator programs the Versacount II+ interface with the correct stop point, carrier tape pitch,
and count direction. It can also be programmed to count specific amounts of parts. When pro-
gramming is complete, the operator presses the STOP/GO key. The Versacount II+ will then
prompt the operator to align the last empty pocket before the first part to be counted with the
scribe lines on the tape guide.
When alignment is complete the operator presses STOP/GO to begin the counting process. The
counter will count all pockets that move through the count head, feeding the processed tape onto
the empty take-up reel. When the operator presses STOP/GO again or if the pre-selected reel
count is reached, the Versacount II+ will stop.
If an optional printer or pc is installed, a reel report can be printed or saved at this time.
