Counting SMD Reels with an EPD
61673621.fm
Empty Pocket Detector Enable
The EPD setting toggles the Empty Pocket Detector on and off. When the EPD is disabled, it will
not detect or count empty pockets nor stop the counter at the end of a reel.
Press the right or left direction arrow on the keypad to enable or disable the EPD. Otherwise, if
no change is desired, press ENT to continue.
When the EPD is enabled, the sensor will detect whether parts are in each pocket that pass
under it and keep a count of the number of empty pockets it detects. It will also stop the counter
whenever five (5) consecutive empty pockets are detected, which is assumed to be the end of
the reel.
Consecutive Empty Pocket Fail Setting
The FAIL setting sets the number of consecutive empty pockets that will trigger the counter to
stop. The value can be from 0 to 3.
A setting of 0 will disable the fail feature. That is, the counter will detect and count empty pock-
ets, but it will not trigger an error and stop the counter while doing so. Otherwise, the number
entered (1 to 3) is the number of consecutive empty pockets that will stop the counter when
detected. A setting of 1 will cause the counter to stop whenever an empty pocket is detected.
Regardless of this setting, however, the counter will stop when five consecutive empty pockets
are detected, as this is assumed to be the end of the reel.
Enter the desired setting and then press the ENT to continue.
Run Screen
When the ENTER key is pressed while FAIL is
flashing, the screen shown in Figure 1-30 will
appear. This screen gives the operator the oppor-
tunity to continue and begin counting a reel or to
return to the Setup screen and review the settings
there.
If no further changes to any settings is needed, press the STOPGO key to continue.
Align Tape Screen
When Run Mode is entered, an Align Tape Screen
will appear before advancing to the Run screen.
The Align Tape screen appears as shown in Fig-
ure 1-31.
In order for the empty pocket detector to function
properly, the carrier tape must be centered pre-
cisely under the EPD sensor.
Press STOPGO to continue
Press Enter to Go back.
