Setup
6. Install the Empty Pocket Detector (optional)
The empty pocket detector (EPD) is an optional module
that can be purchased for use with the Versacount II+.
It is used to detect and track the number of empty pock-
ets in a reel of SMD carrier tape.
Note:
The EPD only works with embossed
tape. It cannot process paper tape.
To install the EPD module, place the assembly onto the
dowel pins on the left side of the tape adjuster and
secure it into place with two knobs. Then plug the EPD
connector to the EPD jack on the rear panel of the coun-
ter.
To adjust the empty pocket detector to the size of carrier
tape being counted, simply slide the EPD bracket so
that the leading edge is aligned with the detent labelled
with the width of carrier tape to be used.
The EPD does not adjust laterally. The carrier tape is
aligned with the EPD so that the center of the pocket is
beneath the sensor.
7. Connect Hardware Options
If the Dymo label printer or PC software integration is to be used, connect the serial port to the
RS232 communications port located on the back panel of the Versacount II+ (Figure 1-3) before
powering up the counter. Also ensure that the option is enabled in the Options screen (see
page 11).
If the optional footswitch was provided with the counter, plug its cable into the port marked
FOOTSWITCH located beneath the RS232 port on the back panel of the counter. Place the
switch in a convenient place on the floor under the counter.
8. Load Tape & Reel
Load the reel of tape to be counted on one reel arm of the Versacount II+. Feed the tape through
the counter. Load an empty take-up reel on the other reel arm and advance the tape to attach it
to the take-up reel.
Note:
The Versacount II+ is bi-directional. Load full reel on desired side, then set the
direction when configuring settings during set-up.
