Calibration
Making Calibration Reels
Refer to Figure A-1 for the following information.
Note:
Calibration requires the
Empty Pocket Detector (EPD)
option, which can be purchased
separately.
1.
Obtain a good quality reel of any size tape that has over 600 empty pockets.
2.
The VERSACOUNT II counts both empty and full pockets. This means that the pockets must
be filled with actual or simulated parts. Parts can be simulated by covering the hole in the
center of each pocket with opaque tape. Measure 36” from the end for a leader. From this
point, fill the tape with 600 parts. Randomly leave ten pockets empty throughout the tape.
Do not have more than two consecutive empty pockets in the reel. The last part should be in
the 610th pocket (600 parts plus ten empty pockets). Trim the tape off approximately 36” past
the last part..
3.
Have someone else manually verify the count of 600 parts and ten empty pockets. Do not
use the VERSACOUNT II for verification.
4.
Label the reel as a calibration reel that contains 600 parts and ten empty pockets.
Using the Calibration Reel
1.
Place the calibration reel on the counter. Set the counter to the automatic mode and use the
EPD module.
2.
Run the tape and when the counter comes to a stop, verify that the counter displays 600 parts
and ten empty pockets
