Overview
Total Control System Design Checklist
The DMS-AV will only deliver full functionality in a Total Control system accompanied by an MRX Advanced
Network System Controller. The MRX unit is required to provide two-way, bulletproof control via any Total
Control user interface, including the iPhone, iPad and Droid apps.
Selling iPhone, iPad and Droid Total Control APPs
Be careful not to oversell URC’s profitable Total Control Apps for smart phones and tablets. Yes, the apps offer
all the two-way capability of a TRC-1280 in a device that your client already owns and thinks is cool. Yes, they
ensure that the client can control the system with the phone they already carry around everywhere. However,
even Apple’s phenomenal iPad has huge limitations compared to even the lowliest Total Control remotes:
1. Cannot mute volume instantly:
Before adjusting the volume or muting the DMS AV, press the
main/home button and then open the Total Control App, then the client must wait for the device to
connect to the network. All Total Control remotes respond to a mute or volume press in a fraction of a
second.
2. Cannot control system during a phone call or while viewing another app:
The delays listed above do
not just happen the first time they use it, but on the phone call or after any use of another app!
Obviously, your client can use a Total Control remote while on the phone or while they are airplaying an
iPad game to the TV...
3. iPads are too heavy to channel surf with all night.
Even the coolest smart phone gets awkward when
used as a remote control for an entire evening. Total Control remotes offer carefully designed housings
that to fit your client’s hands comfortably all evening.
Selling Total Control Remotes
Try to ensure that all your clients have at least one remote control in the home theater that always instantly
responds, fits their hands, and never exhausts their wrists:
TRC-780
Provides true two-way status on a text-only color screen. The 1.7” OLED screen is completely
readable and displays text with the same size as the iPhone’s default button labels. The
TRC-780 is housed in a phenomenally rugged battery powered enclosure perfect for clients who
can’t be bothered with replacing a remote on a charger base. As an additional plus, the
TRC-780’s shape and button layout offer perfect ergonomics for the inveterate cable or satellite
channel surfer.
TRC-1280
Provides all the features of the TRC-780 on a high-resolution 2.8” touch screen. The two-way
features of the TRC-1280 include all of the TRC-780’s features, adding display of cover art from
any of URC’s music sources, and full control of the DMS-AV’s video and surround sound
features.
