DESIGN, OPERATION, ADJUSTMENT AND
SERVICING OF TRUCK COMPONENTS
(BRIEF DESCRIPTION)
ENGINE
The truck is powered with the engine manufactured by the Yaroslavl Motor
Works. Description of engine design as well as instructions for engine operation
and maintainance are given in the Operation Manual issued by the Yaroslavl
Motor Works, which is supplied with the truck.
Fuel System
Engine Fuel System.
Fuel is taken from main fuel tank 1 (Fig. 22) by fuel feed
pump 8 and is supplied to injection pump
(
high-pressure fuel pump - HPFP) 10 via
coarse-mesh filter 22 and fine-mesh filter 13.
The injection pump delivers fuel via pipes to the injectors, which inject fuel into
the engine cylinders in accordance with the firing sequence. Excessive fuel together
with air, which has entered the fuel system, are returned to the fuel tank through the
orificed valve of the fine-mesh filter via fuel lines 15 and 17. The fuel, which has
oozed through the injector’s precision parts is also returned to the fuel tank via pipes 6
and 23. The fuel volume in the main fuel tank is measured by an electrical level gauge
installed in the tank and is controlled by the indicator on the dashboard.
