Wheels and tires
The wheels are separable, and consist of rim bases 2 (Fig. 49), bead rings 5,
lock rings 4 and lock ring limiters 3.
The rim bases incorporate the toroidal seats, which the tire beads rest on, the
mounting grooves, which allow mounting the tires onto the rims and dismantling
them, the disks, which serve to fix the wheels on the truck hubs. The 400
Г
-508
wheels can be used both with detachable and nondetachable bead edges on the side
opposite to the lock part.
The bead and lock rings of the 254
Г
-
508 and 400
Г
-508 wheels are inter-
changeable and are mounted on these wheels in a strictly determined position with
the help of the lock ring limiters welded to the rim and pressed out pieces on the
lock rings, which enter the appropriate recess (slot) on the bead rings. The second
slot on the bead rings is used, when dismantling the wheels. On one of the lock ring
ends a slot for gripping the ring, when taking it out of the rim lock groove, is made.
The lock ring limiters serve to prevent turning the rings over, when the truck
travels with reduced tire pressure, and at the same time they are the brackets, which
wheel valves 1 are fastened to, and additional supports for protection hoods of air
supply hoses.
On the 254
Г
-
508 wheels, the wheel valve is mounted on the outer side of the
limiting bracket, on the 400
Г
-
508 wheels – on the inner side.
Rubber seals 9 of the wheel valve slot do not allow mud inside the tires and
ensure that the inner tube valves are set in a certain position.
The wheels with tires can be balanced. Balancing of the wheels is performed
with the help of balancing weights 11, which are fastened by spring 10. The nuts
and studs, fastening the wheels on the left and right sides, have a right

hand
thread.
