If it is required to check up controlled voltage:
- connect a voltmeter, not less than 0.5 class of accuracy with the dial 0-30 V
between the «+» terminal and the regulator body;
- start the truck engine and set a medium engine speed;
- switch on distant light of the headlamps as a load and read the adjustable
voltage on the voltmeter.
The voltage kept by the regulator at 15-35 °C should be 26.5-27.9 V at the
minimum level, 28.1-28.7 V at the intermediate level and 28.7-30.1 V at the
maximum level.
When checking the adjustable voltage V on the bench (Fig. 91), the rotor
speed should be 3500 min

and load current – 18A. If voltage exceeds that in the
technical specifications, replace the regulator.

Storage batteries
The storage batteries are designed to start the engine with the help of starter
and operate in combination with the alternator at maximum loads.
The storage batteries filled with electrolyte are installed in the truck. Dry-
charged storage batteries, which are capable to keep their original charge within a
year from the moment of their charging, can be installed upon a special request.
