Add water in winter right before starting the engine. If the electrolyte level
reduces, when splashing out, add it. In so doing the density of the electrolyte to be
added should conform to its density in the battery. If the electrolyte has fallen on
the battery surface, remove it with a piece of clean cloth moistened in 10 % ammo-
nia solution or that of soda ash. Then wipe the surface with a piece of cloth mois-
tened by water and after that wipe it dry.
Store the dry-charged batteries at an ambient temperature in the storing room
from -40 °C up to +60 °C.
The plugs with sealing disks should be screwed in the batteries tight, the bolts
and nuts to the terminals should be covered with a thin layer of a lubricant.
Main faults of the storage batteries and methods of their elimination are given
in Chapter «Possible Troubles and Methods of Trouble-Shooting».
Lighting and alarm system
The lighting and alarm devices comprise two main head lamps, front and rear
lights, a number plate light, a flood head lamp, reversing light, a roof lamp,
underhood lamp and instrument illumination lamps, pilot lamps located on the
dashboard.
The front lights*
1
perform functions of front clearance lamps and front turn
indicators, the rear lights perform functions of rear clearance lamps, rear turn indi-
cators and a stop signal.
The front lights*
2
perform functions of front clearance lamps and front turn
indicators, the rear lights perform functions of rear clearance lamps, rear turn indi-
cators, a stop signal, reversing lights, a light-reflecting device and side light-
reflecting devices.
The head lamps are engaged by central changeover switch 19 (see Fig. 12) in
position II, the distance or dim light is engaged by a foot changeover switch.
When the central changeover switch is set in position I or II, the clearance
lamps and instrument illumination lamps are turned on correspondingly.
The flood head lamp is engaged by a separate switch only in position I on the
central changeover switch.
When installing a truck body roof lamp, connect it to the chain of the illumi-
nation light located under the truck body.
The sound alarming
is performed by high- and low-tone electric signals.
The alarms are engaged by the switch that is inserted in the air valve. Air is sup-
plied to the air valve from the pneumatic system via the air take-off valve.
Turn and braking alarming.
The turn indicators are engaged by the
changeover switch mounted on the steering column. When turning the changeover
switch handle clockwise, the r.h. turn signalling lamps installed in the front light,
the side repeater and in the rear light, are turned on. When turning the handle
counter-clockwise, the l.h. turn pilot lamps are engaged. The changeover switch is
returned in its original position automatically.
The transistor breaking relay provides the flashing light. If one of the lamps,
installed in the lights, is faulty, the pilot lamp of the turn indicators on the dash-
board does not go ON. When pressing the brake pedal, the stop signal lamps of the
rear lights are switched on.
