Trouble
Possible Reason
Trouble-Shooting
S t e e r i n g
Unstable
truck
movement, free travel of
the steering wheel exceeds
25 degrees
Wear of "worm
-
segment" pair
Wear
of
"rack-
segment" pair
Adjust backlash be-
tween the worm and seg-
ment teeth and those of
the rack and segment
Wear of steering rod
joints and splined bushes of
the steering cardan drive
Repalce the worn
-
out parts by new ones, lu-
bricate splined connections
Slakened fixing of the
steering gear
Tighten up the bolts
fastening the steering gear
case
“Heavy” steering
Insufficient oil level in
the steering hydraulic system
tank
Add oil up to the
reguired level
Air or water in the
system (foam in the tank,
cloudy oil)
Remove air. If air can
not be removed, check
tighteing of all joints, re-
move and rinse the mesh
filter, check if the gasket
under the manifold is in-
tact. Check tightening of
the bolts fixing the mani-
fold. And if the faults
have not been remedied by
means of the above
measures, replace the oil
Insufficient thightening
of the pump drive belt
Tighten up the belt
The pump does not
provide the required deliv-
ery and pressure
Check the pump
Increased oil leakage
in the distributor, scores
on bearing surfaces of the
slide valve
Replace the distributor
Slacked tightening of
the slide valve nut
Unlock the nut, tighten
it up and relock by press-
ing its belt into the shaft
slot
The splined joint of the
steering cardan shaft lost
its mobility
Disassemble, clean and
lubricate
Screwing
-
out of the
seat of the pump safety valve
Disassemble
the
pump, screw in the seat
Increased noise as
the pump is running
Insufficient oil level in
the steering hydraulic system
tank
Add the oil up to the
required level
Filter clogging
Rinse the filter
The gasket under the
manifold is damaged
Replace the gasket
Oil ejection through
the oil tank breather
Mesh filter clogging
Oil level is too high
Check the filter as-
sembly and rinse the filter
Bring the oil level to its
norm
