3.29 Impact Level Notification
Communications for the Public Sector Network (PSN) is seen as originating from,
or terminating to, zones with differing 'impact' levels (the impact level indicates
how the phone user should handle the call conversation). The purpose is to notify
the OpenScape Desk Phone users when they are connecting or in a call where
another party in the call is in a lower Impact Level (IL) zone.
This feature uses a UI mechanism to notify/remind the phone user that the call
may require special treatment. This involves special icons, text indications and
special audio (ringer or tone as appropriate). There are no restrictions on call
handling as a result of any special status for the call.
Thus the Impact Level notification feature only involves UI changes that are
triggered by receiving new SIP headers and affects the following:

Prompts presented to alert for incoming calls
•
Prompts presented to monitor progress for outgoing calls
•
Connected call displays
•
Call scenarios involving multiple calls
•
Retrieving a held call
However, since there are no call restrictions explicit for the Impact Level Notifi-
cation feature, the solution needs to consider some additional scenarios:
•
Group pickup
•
Directed pickup
•
Callback
•
CTI action
•
Shared lines on a Keyset
This feature cannot be turned off at the phone since it is driven solely by the OSV.
The OSV is responsible for being aware of the impact level of the phone (the
phone does not have control of its own level) and the impact levels of all other
endpoints that are participating in a call with the phone. The OSV uses this infor-
