NOISE GENERATOR
9.1.
Foreword
Noise, due to its characteristic of containing an extremely wide frequency spectrum, can
often provide viable assistance in replacing expensive full-range frequency generators.
Noise generators are regularly used for calibrating channel amplifiers, controlling standing
waves, controlling impedance and controlling the integrity of coaxial cables.
NOTE
: Due to its high output power (about 1 mW), the NG96 can easily saturate the
device’s measurement inputs; it is therefore necessary to make sure that this does
not take place. Position an attenuator at the device's measurement input if
necessary.
9.2.
Use
When active, the noise generator’s signal is present at the
NG OUT
connector.
In order to enable or disable the noise generator, press the
2nd
and
NG
buttons in
sequence or else hold down the
MENU
button to access the “MAIN MENU”. The NOISE
GENERATOR item will indicate the device’s status (ON or OFF). After having selected the
item, press
ENTER
and use the Shaft Encoder to select the desired status. Press
ENTER
to
confirm the selection.
Press the
MENU
button to exit the menu.
