Ribbon Save Device
Troubles, cont'd.
26. TROUBLE SHOOTING, cont'd.
Transfer ribbon is not properly rewound, cont'd.
• If the measurements above deviate from what is normal, check the
incoming signals ST 1-3 and ST 4-6 to IC-2 and IC-3, respec-
tively. They are all TTL level signals, and should vary between
low and high with a frequency in the range of kilohertz. If they are
found OK, the control and drive circuits IC-2 and IC-3, or the
Connection Board, are probably damaged.
Jammed receiving face materials
• Check that the springs of the pressing roll unit press it against the
rear drive roller with such a force that the receiving face material
does not slip.
• Check that the receiving face material is properly loaded, that all
adjustments of the paper guides are OK, and that there is no
obstruction of the face material coming out of the printer, e.g. a
incorrectly fitted tear-off edge or paper cutter.
• In case of fan-folded face material from an external supply,
additional paper guides should be fitted, see chapter 5.2.
• When the printer is used for tear off or cut off operation (as
opposed to peel-off) and the ribbon save device is activated, weak
and thin face materials may get jammed. Since the face material
is pushed forward by the rear pressing roll only when the
printhead is lifted, a certain stiffness of the face material is
required.
Ribbon gets wrinkled or bad printout
• Check that the program and setup do not contain any instructions
which will pull back the paper, e.g. negative start or stop adjust
values or negative
FORMFEED
statements, while the ribbon save
device is turned off (
RIBBON SAVE OFF
).
• Check that the nuts are properly adjusted in relation to the lifting
bridge, see chapter 10.7.
• Also refer to the checklist in chapter 24.2.
