Bolt-Tightening Sequence for
Water Piping Connections
This section describes a bolt-tightening sequence for
flanges w ith flat gaskets or O-rings. Rem em ber that
im properly tightened flanges m ay leak.
N ot e: Before tightening any of the bolts, align the flanges.
Flanges w ith 8 or 12 Bolts
Tighten all bolts to a snug tightness, follow ing the
num erical sequence for the appropriate bolt pattern as
show n below. Repeat this sequence to apply the final
torque to each bolt.
Flanges w ith 16 or 20 Bolts
Tighten only the first half of the total num ber of bolts to a
snug tightness, follow ing the num erical sequence for the
appropriate bolt pattern as show n below. Next,
sequentially tighten the rem aining half of the bolts in
num erical order.
Pressure Testing Waterside Piping
Waterside design pressure is either 1034.2 or 2068.4 kPag
(150 or 300 psig); refer to unit nam eplate or to subm ittal
docum entation.
NOTICE:
Equipment Damage!
Failure to follow these instructions could result in
equipment damage. Do not over pressurize the system
or exceed design pressure. Always perform as a hydro
pressure test w ith water present in piping and
waterboxes.
