Procedure 3
Connector Check and Replacement Check
The CD-ROM drive has an internal CD-ROM drive cable. This cable connects to a flexible
cable, which in turn connects to the system board. The internal CD-ROM drive cable may be
disconnected from the flexible cable, the flexible cable may be disconnected from the system
board, or the flexible cable may be damaged. Disassemble the computer following the steps
described in Chapter 4,
Replacement Procedures
, and perform the following checks.
Check 1
Make sure the CD-ROM drive is firmly connected to the system board through the
flexible cable.

If the flexible cable is disconnected, connect it to the CD-ROM drive cable or the
system unit and repeat Procedure 2. If the CD-ROM is still not functioning
properly, perform Check 2.
Check 2
The CD-ROM drive may be defective or damaged. Replace the drive with a new
one following the steps in Chapter 4. If the drive is still not functioning properly,
perform Check 3.
Check 3
Replace the flexible cable with a new one following the steps in Chapter 4. If the
CD-ROM drive is still not functioning properly, perform Check 4.
Check 4
Replace the system board with a new one following the steps in Chapter 4.
