5.2. CHECKING THE NETWORK
The connection between two IP addresses can be checked using the "ping" command. Cameras on the
network can thus be checked for activity.
1. Open the DOS window.
2. Enter the "ping" command followed by the IP address of the device.
When the device is found, a response is received. (In the figure, the Windows 2000 command prompt is
used.)
If no response is received, the device is not checked via the network. This can have the following causes.
• The device is not correctly connected to the network. In this case, check connection wiring.
• The device is not correctly set in the network. Check the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.
