Optimizing the Performance of the Device

This section provides information for best performance of the device
and gives hints on what you can do to optimize the performance further.

6.7.1

General Guidelines

Consider the following guidelines for optimization of the device
performance:

The recording of several signal channels at individual wavelengths
enables a selective detection with narrow bandwidths.
To enable a selective detection, choose an appropriate wavelength
for each analyte, at which the analyte has an absorbance maximum
and co eluting analytes do not absorb.

Avoid the wavelength range where the solvents absorb strongly (for
example, below 220 nm for methanol and below 210 nm for
acetonitrile).

Ignite the lamps only if required (for more information, see

Guidelines for Use of the Lamps (

}

). Igniting the lamps

frequently reduces the lifetime of the lamp. In addition, after a
(re‑)ignition of the lamps, some time is required for the detector to
stabilize.

Monitor the lamp age and schedule appropriate maintenance
intervals.

Ensure that the operating conditions are suitable. This includes:

Stable environmental conditions, such as a stable temperature

¨

No air drafts

¨

No vibrations or mechanical shocks caused by external sources

¨

Stable backpressure and correct waste line setup
