APPENDIX
Configuring VX to talk to Asterisk
This is deep into the appendix so by this point, we presume that you have the VX installed with the WAN port on the same
network as the Asterisk server. If you haven’t read that section of this manual, now is a good time. For understanding’s sake, we
will repeat some of what we discussed there:
First, go to the
SIP
page in the VX’s UI.
At the bottom, you will notice a section called
ADD NEW
with a
SERVER
field. Enter the IP address for the Asterisk server here
and click
ADD
.
This will take you to the main configuration page for the server. Enter a memorable name for the server in the
NAME
field and
click the
APPLY
button directly beneath the General Settings fields.
Next, find the
ADD NEW
section of the page. Enter the extension number into the
EXTENSION
and
AUTH USER
fields, check
the
REGISTER
check box, and enter the password you set for
SECRET
back when we were configuring the Asterisk in the
AUTH
PASSWORD
. Remember? Now click
ADD
.
If you configured multiple extensions, repeat this process until you are done.
REMEMBER:
You do not need to have a separate extension set up for each request line position in a studio. If you want to have
multiple line positions registered to the same number in a roll-over or hunt group configuration, VX will do that for you. It’s
really cool!
The Next step is to add the extension(s) to a VX Show profile and assign the show to a VX Studio.
You’ll find it described in chapter 2 of this manual.
