INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION
System Logs Page
The VX’s logging capability is a powerful tool to track down problems –even those due to operator error – we do recognize that
operator error is rare and nearly non-existent.
The logger in the VX Enterprise and VX Prime+ is different from the older hardware platforms in that the logs are no longer
stored in only in RAM, it writes it to internal storage and saves them there. This solves two problems. Since the log goes to
internal storage and not just RAM, log entries aren’t lost when the system needs to reboot because of a crash and it no longer
necessitates the need for an external syslog logger. Each log is archived once per day and given a name with the date. The date
and time is also listed next to the file link along with the size of the log file. To view the current log, download and view the file
called “telos_vx.log” with no date and time listed.
While you might be able to understand the log messages after some effort, we don’t expect you to do so. These are mostly
intended for our support people, who would advise you as what settings to use for the capture and then interpret the result.
These are simple text files and if you look through them you may find something interesting or useful for troubleshooting.
Internet standard Network Time Protocol (NTP) is used to provide an accurate timestamp to the events captured in logs. For
accurate timestamps, you need to have an NTP server accessible on your network and its IP address properly configured on the
System
page.
Firmware Update Page
New firmware for the VX Engine is first obtained from Telos
via email, Internet download, etc. It is then uploaded to the
VX Engine using this page.
You can have as many as five stored in the Engine at one
time. On this page, you choose which of them will be active.
Reboot the Engine after activating new firmware.
When more than one version is listed, you have the option to
activate or delete the version. Note that the currently active
version is the version that is currently running, so you can’t
activate or delete it.
