10.4. Diagnostic Cartridge
The main objective for the Diagnostic Cartridge test is to test the complete Drive as
comprehensive and fast as possible when installed in the system.
Starting the Test
A Diagnostic Cartridge test is started by inserting a
Diagnostic Cartridge into the Drive (note that for a
diagnostic tape to be recognized as such, the OND bit
of the Miscellaneous Parameters page of MODE SELECT
must be set to zero. See also section 14.3.10 of the
Tandberg SLR7, SLR50, SLR60, SLR75, SLR100, SLR140 SCSI
Interface -Functional Specifications).
Since the test involves write operations the existing tape contents will be destroyed!

Test Sequence
The Diagnostic Cartridge test performs the following
tests:

Collect Information
. Read and store Drive and Medium information:
1.
Read Firmware ID and Drive ID
2.
Read tape type and tape format
3.
Read cartridge serial number (only on servo based
media like SLRtape50 SL, SLR40/60/100 – 10GB)
4.
Read Error History Log and Log page 0x33 from
EEPROM
5.
Read Run time Counters from EEPROM

Mainboard Test
. Tests the mainboard hardware. See section 10.8.1 Mainboard
Test for details.

Cartridge Manipulation Test
. The Cartridge Manipulation (CAM) Test performs
Bridge and Clamp movement operations similar to those performed during Cartridge
Load and Eject situations. See section 10.8.2 Cartridge Manipulation Test for details.
•
Read/Write Test
. This test involves actual reading and writing on the tape medium.
A write pass and a read pass are executed. See section 10.8.3 Read/Write Test for
details.
Failure Indication
Flashing amber Failure LED when finished.
Detailed information can be retrieved by the ‘Receive
Diagnostic Results’ SCSI command.
