Operating the service brake
The regenerative brake converts the accelera-
tion energy of the truck into electrical energy.
This causes the truck to brake.
–
To do this, release the accelerator ped-
al (1).
–
If the braking effect is inadequate, use the
brake pedal (2) to also actuate the service
brake.
In the first section of the brake pedal's travel,
only the regenerative braking takes effect. As
the pedal is depressed further, the mechanical
brake is also activated and acts on the drive
wheels.
Electrical braking recovers energy for the bat-
tery. This results in a longer operating time be-
tween the charging processes and less wear
to the brakes.
DANGER
If the service brake fails, the truck cannot brake
sufficiently. Risk of accident!
If the driver notices that the electrical braking effect
has reduced by 50% and that the drive torque has
decreased to 50% of the normal level, a component
failure may have occurred.
–
Bring the truck to a standstill using the brakes.
Use the parking brake if necessary to assist in this
process.
–
Notify the authorised service centre.
–
Do not operate the truck again until the service
brake has been repaired.
DANGER
At speeds that are too high, there is a danger that
the truck could slip or overturn!
The braking distance of the truck depends on various
factors such as the weather conditions and the level
of contamination on the roadway. Note that the basic
braking distance increases with the square of the
speed.
–
Adapt your driving and braking style to suit the
weather conditions and the level of contamination
on the roadway.
–
Always choose a driving speed that will provide a
sufficient stopping distance.
