Caused by the sequential action of the PLC a change of dominance can be effected by alternation of Line 1/2 and Line 3/4.

Both flip-flops have the same behaviour in normal operation; in case of power failure and a subsequent return of voltage FF1
holds the last switch position, while FF2 is reset. An output programmed as flip-flop behaves like FF2.
