4.  Remove the knobs of the 12V terminals (5) and attach the free ends of the DC leads.

Connect the black DC cable to the Negative Connector (-) and the red DC cable to
the Positive Connector (+). Tighten the knobs. Double check that the cables are
connected to the correct connectors. Connect the free end of the positive red DC
cable to the battery positive (+) terminal. Connect the free end of the negative black
DC cable to the battery negative terminal (-).

•  Make sure the DC cables cannot come into contact with each other and short the

battery terminals

•  Polarity must be correct as the inverter’s external DC fuse will be blown by incorrect

polarity

Operation

Connecting a load

1.  Before connecting any appliance to the inverter, toggle the On/Off Switch (4) to the

on position. The green Power Indicator Light (1) will illuminate. The inverter is now
ready to be used

WARNING:

DO NOT connect loads greater than the rated maximum continuous power

output of the inverter (see ‘Specification’).

Notes:

•  Some devices do not operate well with an inverter supplying moderated sine

wave current. Those devices will only operate properly when connected to a
standard household power socket, which provides current with pure sine wave. It is
recommended that such devices are only operated from household power sockets

•  Some appliances (televisions, stereos, motors, neon lights etc.) may require a much

higher starting power than their rated power. If the appliance will not start, the
maximum output of the inverter has been exceeded. Reduce the total load on the
inverter

•  If the appliance to be connected does not have its wattage (W) indicated on it (e.g. on

the rating plate), the wattage can be calculated by multiplying the amperage (A) by 230
2.  Electrical appliances can now be connected to the 230V Outlet Socket (3)

Low battery protection

Note:

In order to prevent your vehicle battery from being discharged completely, this

inverter is equipped with a low voltage alarm and automatic low battery shutdown.
•  DO NOT connect loads greater than the rated maximum continuous power output of the

inverter (see ‘Specification’)

Problem

Possible cause

Solution

Inverter will not operate

Low battery voltage

Charge or replace battery

An incompatible AC device is connected

Disconnect AC device

Inverter in thermal shutdown

Allow inverter to cool before switching on

DC cables are poorly connected

Check DC leads for damage and secure connections

Fuse ‘blown’

Replace fuse (see ‘Maintenance’). Contact your authorised Silverline service centre if

fuse blows repeatedly.

Electrical appliance will not operate

Incompatible AC device is connected

Disconnect AC device

Current or starting current requirements of AC device are

too high

AC device not compatible

Inductive load AC device not compatible with modified sine

wave AC

Try connecting a low-power resistive load device, like a small filament lamp, at the

same time. This may cause the inductive load device to function

Low voltage alarm on continuously

Poor electrical connections

Check/clean electrical connections

Inadequate power supply

Check 12V system capacity

Low output voltage

Inverter is overloaded

Reduce load

Input voltage is below 11V

Charge or replace battery

Television/stereo interference

Inverter is located too close to aerial

Move inverter/aerial

Aerial cable is not shielded

Use shielded cable

Troubleshooting

•  If the supply voltage drops to 10.5V, the low battery alarm will sound and the Low

Battery Indicator Light (2) will illuminate. This indicates that the battery should be
charged. If the supply voltage is allowed to drop to 10V, the inverter will automatically
cut out. To restart the inverter, switch off, charge the battery, and switch back on

•  A typical 12V battery will have an operating time of at least 1-2 hours. It is

recommended that the vehicle’s engine is started and run once every hour to ‘top up’
the battery

Note:

The inverter may shut down as the engine is started due to the high electrical load

generated by the vehicle starter motor.

Overload protection

•  This inverter is equipped with built-in thermal protection. If an overload causes the

internal parts of the inverter to overheat, it will automatically shut down

•  To restart, switch off, reduce the load, allow the inverter to cool, and switch back on

Maintenance

WARNING:

ALWAYS disconnect the device from the power supply before cleaning or

carrying out maintenance.

Cleaning

•  Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly,

and shorten the device’s service life. Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush,
or dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation
holes (where applicable)

Replacing fuses

•  A blade type fuse is fitted into the rear of this device
•  When blown, only replace with another fuse of the same type and rating (see

‘Specification’)

•  Determine the source of the overload or short, and remove before switching power back

on. If the fuse keeps blowing it indicates a fault condition with the unit

Disposal

Always adhere to national regulations when disposing of power tools that are no longer
functional and are not viable for repair.
•  Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic equipment

(WEEE), with household waste

•  Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct way to

dispose of power tools
