APPENDIX E - Electromagnetic Compatibility
SIGMA Manual Number 41018
Revision AR
Immunity – Separation Distances
WARNING:
The Spectrum pump is not designed to be exposed to linear accelerator
radiation nor is it intended to be used in this manner. Exposure to
radiation of this type may cause the device to operate improperly.
Do not expose the SIGMA Spectrum to linear accelerator radiation.
Doing so may cause injury to the patient and/or damage to the
equipment.
Recommended separation distance between
portable and mobile RF communications equipment and the Spectrum
The SIGMA M odel Sp ectrum is intended for use in an ele ctromagnetic e nvironme nt in which the RD dis-
turbances a re controlled. The customer or user of the Spectrum can help prevent electromagnetic inter-
ference by mainta ining a m inimum distance betw een the portable and m obile RF comm unications
equip ment (transm itters) and the Spectrum as recomm ended below, according to the maxim um output
p ower of the com munications equipment.

Fo r transm itters rated at m aximum output powe r not listed ab ove, the recomm ended separation distance
d in meters (m ) can be determ ined using th e equation applicable to the frequency of the transm itter,
where pow er P is the m axim um output power rating of the transm itter in watts (W) according to the trans-
mitter manu facturer.
NOTE 1 At 80 M Hz and 800 MH z, the separation dista nce for the higher freque ncy range applies.
NOTE 2 Th e ISM (ind ustrial, scientific, and medical) b ands between 150 kHz and 80 M Hz are 6.75 6 MHz
to 6.79 5 M Hz; 13.553 M Hz to 13.567 M Hz; 26.957 M Hz to 27.283 M Hz; and 40.66 M Hz to 40.70 MH z.
NOTE 3 An additional factor o f 10/3 is used in calculating the recom mende d separation distance for th e
tra nsmitters in the ISM frequency band between 150 kHz and 80 M Hz and in the frequency range 80 M Hz
to 2.5 GHz to decre ase the likelihood that mobile/portable com munications equipm ent co uld cause inter-
ference if it is inadvertently brough t into patient areas.
NOTE 4 The guidelines may not app ly in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by
absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people.
