Realistically, the only function this applies to is Parameter 7751 (Create Emergency Key) as this
function takes minutes to operate.
Secure USB System Keys
The secure USB system keys are used for fully recovering to the current system configuration
state (manually done), allowing an update to the system software, or recovering to bare factory
configurations. These functions are only available on the keypad. The functions are responsible
for the loading the “Base Package Version” as indicated on Debug Tool – Software/Firmware
Versions screen.
The DCR can hold a maximum of two “Base Package” files. The “factory” file is the oldest file
loaded; usually this is done at the factory. Parameter 7749 – Create Factory Key is responsible for
restoring the factory file. If an update was loaded, this would be the latest file and is restored
using Parameter 7750 – Create Restore Key. Both Parameter 7749 and 7750 functions delete ALL
customer specific DCR parameters. The terms restore and recover are synonymous throughout
this description; the parameter ID number is the best identifier.
The base package file adheres to the following rules:
• The filename is of the form: NxGproPlus_vXXYYZZ_RNNN.init
– Example: v8.0.0 Release 001 filename is NxGproPlus_v080000_R001.init
CAUTION
DO NOT RENAME FILENAME
The filename cannot be renamed. It will be ignored / deleted by the DCR.
The recommended key for system recovery to customer specific DCR parameters is to use the
“nxgemergency” key. To update the base system software, the “nxgupdate” key is used to allow
the DCR to accept an update; updating the base system software is not a normal process.
All secure USB system keys are for use with the DCR from which they are created. The one
exception is the nxgemergency key; it can be used on another DCR (or 10 other DCRs) for a total
of 10 times. The nxgemergency key can always be used on the DCR from which it was created.
CAUTION
Use of any of the secure USB system keys shall be done by a trained professional.
At a minimum, the secure USB key “nxgemergency” should be created as it captures current DCR
state.
If the key was never created, and the DCR enters a corrupted state, then the DCR usually cannot
be recovered.
CAUTION
WHEN USING THE KEYS DO NOT REMOVE POWER FROM THE DCR
Removing power from the DCR will put the DCR into an unusable state and may not be
recoverable.
