the Window beneath the time and date. You cam also switch to TEL mode by picking up the handset in
any mode before the SF 2200 answers.
• When the sender is calling from a manual fax machine, instruct him to press his START key. When
you hear a fax tone, press your START/COPY key and hang up. The SF 2200 will receive the fax.
• If, when you answer the phone, you hear a fax tone, someone is trying to send you a fax from an
automatic fax machine. Press START/COPY and hang up to receive the fax.
• If you do not answer before 11 rings, the SF 2200 will switch to FAX mode, and handle the call as
described at left in “ Receiving in FAX Mode.”
2-1 Receiving ANS/FAX Mode
2-1-1 Receiving ANS/FAX Mode
To use your SF 2200 with a telephone answering device (TAD):
• Set up your SF 2200 and TAD as described on page 11.
• Press RCV. MODE until the light flashes and ANS/FAX appears in the Window.
2-1-2 How ANS/FAX Mode Works
If your SF 2200 is in ANS/FAX mode, but your TAD is switched off, your SF 2200 operates as if it were
in FAX mode.
If your TAD is switched on, the SF 2200 automatically ignores the pre-set number of rings, and instead
waits for the answering machine to pick up:
• When a call is received from an automatic fax machine, the SF 2200 intercepts the call as soon as the
TAD answers, and attempts to receive the fax. Your TAD will reset as if a caller had hung up before
the message finished playing.
• When a call from a manual fax machine is received. the SF 2200 listens quietly on the telephone line
as your TAD’s outgoing message plays. Your TAD message should go something like:
“You have reached (your company). To send a fax, press TONE dial 9 and START key.
To leave a voice message. begin speaking after the beep.
Or you can send a FAX after leaving a voice message.”
