Q
4GB memory is not recognized by Windows
correctly.
A
This is due to a limitation in 32bit operating
systems that exists in notebook computers of
other manufacturers. Although the address space
of the 32bit operating system is 2³²= 4294967296
= 4,096MB = 4GB, all of it cannot be allocated
to memory, as some of it needs to be used for
other purposes by the operating system. Because
approximately 1GB of address space needs to be
allocated to other system resources such as the
BIOS, PCI Device, and VGA for a PC to operate
normally. Therefore, even if 4GB of physical memory
is installed, the address space allocated to memory
is limited to approximately 3GB.
Although users can upgrade their memory to 3 or
4GB, only 3GB is recognized even when 4GB of
memory is installed, and a memory upgrade to 4GB
is not recommended.
