The operating environment temperature of RG-S12000 switches ranges between 0 and 50°C. The heat dissipation design
must satisfy the requirement on the device's reliability in the temperature range while ensuring the device's safety and
maintainability. The RG-S12000 switch use fans to draw air for forced convection in order to ensure that the device works
properly in the specified environment..

For host management and service modules, air flows in from the front and lateral inlets and out from upper back and
lateral inlets. For the power supply modules, air flows in from front inlets and out from back outlets. Host management and
service modules are separated from power supply modules by a division board, which creates two separated air channels.
Airflow directions are shown in the above figure. Six fans of 120 x 120 x 38 are used to increase and accelerate air
convection for heat dissipation.
The chassis should be mounted in a place with sufficient space for air circulation. Sufficient space (10 cm at
least) must be reserved at the air intakes and exhaust vents for ventilation.
Module
The RG-S12000 switch adopts the module-based design. Compliant with industry standards, the design divides modules
and integrates module interfaces to ensure the switch system's functioning and independence of various function
modules.
The RG-S12000 switch' modules provide 10/100/1000M self-adaptive Ethernet electric interfaces, 1000M/100M SFP
(single-mode/multi-mode) optical fiber interfaces and 10000M optical fiber interfaces. 100Base-FX /1000Base-X SFP
optical interfaces and 10/100/1000Base-T electric interfaces of some modules are fiber/copper combo interfaces. Users
can only use either copper or fiber interfaces at a time. Copper interfaces are preferred by default. See the following table
for information about the fiber/copper combo interfaces of the line card.
